Happy Place

There's always so much going on in our lives that we rarely have time to switch off. We're constantly trying to work harder, make more money and spend time with our friends and family. Drivers are always flying down the highways as if the speed limit is just a suggestion. Our phones are constantly buzzing from receiving a text or a notification. People are constantly out shopping to find the latest and greatest things even if it means falling into more debt.

But through all of this hustle and bustle, sometimes you need to take a step back. Reevaluate.

Are you happy where you are? Is what you have what you really want? Do you feel like, even though you're always busy, you're actually not getting anywhere?

When I start to feel myself getting overwhelmed, I know that that's my cue to shut off and gain some perspective.

That's my time to find my happy place.

And that's what I did last week. So I packed up my backpack, put my 10 month old puppy in the backseat and drove away.

Now, I don't necessarily have a specific place that I go to to escape. It's usually one of two areas though. It's either the barn, or somewhere outside of the city where I can drive for hours or hike. Last week, I decided to drive for a couple of hours towards Algonquin Park.

It's amazing how quiet your mind can get when you breathe in the fresh air and hear nothing but the wind and birds chirping.

We hiked through some trails while stopping to take pictures and water breaks. Everytime we stopped, I took time to just enjoy the moment and breathe. With every breath and every step I could feel my mind becoming clearer. I was able to reevaluate my life. I was able to re-establish what is important and what isn't. When it was time to go home, I felt like I was focused once again on my goals and my priorities.

I think that it's important for all of us to find that time to switch off. It's important that we find a way to balance responsibilities, desires, dreams and our soul. If we don't take care of ourselves, no one will. And soon everything will be out of balance and you'll lose focus and become stressed.

So that was my quick thought on finding your happy place. If you'd like to see 3 more pictures that I took while at Algonquin Park, you can find them on my Instagram page (

I'm curious, where you like to go to destress and refocus. Do you have a spa day? Do you read a book? Do you go for a drive? I'd love to know so write it in the comments below!

Until next time, happy riding!
