Asmar Equestrian's 2020 Spring/Summer Collection

I’ve been wanting to write a blog post about Asmar Equestrian’s Spring/Summer collection for a while now. Since they like to release their collections bit by bit, I wanted to wait and make sure that most of the collection was released before sitting down to write to you.

So, I thought that now would be a great time to share with you the 5 pieces that caught my eye.

The Special Edition All Weather Rider

I guess the best place to start would be with the piece that put Asmar Equestrian on the map. The All Weather Rider jacket.

This jacket was designed for the equestrian. It unzips to reveal an extended panel at the back so that you can ride outdoors comfortably. This panel allows the jacket to lay over the saddle while keeping your thighs protected. Which is very useful for those of us that like to go hacking even in questionable weather.

There’s no doubt that this jacket is both stylish and functional. The black one especially caught my eye. I love black and gold together. It’s sophisticated and classic. And it will match with pretty much anything. So for those of you who make an effort to match or compliment your horse, this might be the colour for you. But the other colours are also just as gorgeous.

Other than the overall look and colours of this jacket, I also really appreciate the details. Such as the removable hood, the subtle logo, the inner cuffs and the zippable pockets. These are all details that I enjoy having in my jackets. After all, who wants their phone or keys falling out of their pockets just because they can’t be zipped closed? Not me!

The Kingston Quilted Vest

This quilted vest is a perfect addition to any equestrian wardrobe. Especially for this time of the year. Sometimes it’s just too warm for a jacket, but too cold for a sweater. This vest adds that little bit of warmth without feeling too bulky and restrictive.

I also believe that the Asmar Equestrian team chose the right colour tones for this collection. I think that most people will like them. Even I’m drawn to the pinks in this collection. And I normally stick to the blues and greens.

I particularly like the high neck of this vest. I think it would encourage you to have a tall posture when riding. To keep your head up and to not round your shoulders. All while not being restricted or uncomfortable. I think that the vest as a whole compliments an equestrian’s position beautifully.

Just like the jacket, this vest also has zippered pockets. Allowing to keep things secure while you’re riding. The striped hem adds a touch of a sporty edge to the vest. I would also imagine that the hem is elasticated to help the vest stay in place while you ride.

The Angela 1/4 Zip Sun Shirt

Okay. What drew me to this sun shirt were the lines the designers created when connecting the two fabrics. Especially on the back of the shirt. It’s eye-catching. But it’s also functional. The darker fabric is a mesh material. There are tiny holes throughout it. This allows the equestrian a lot of airflow. Which is beneficial during those hot days. All while still looking stylish.

Did I mention that the fabric is also anti-bacterial and has UPF 50 sun protection? Yeah, this item will be very useful in the summer months. Which, fingers crossed, arrive sooner rather than later.

I like all three colours for different reasons. I think that the mellow rose colour is feminine without being too girly. I also think that the contrast panel looks the best in this rose colour. Like I said earlier, I don’t normally gravitate to pinks, but I do want to try this on to see how it would look on me.

The indigo colour is probably the one I would gravitate to first. But I would be apprehensive of wearing it in really warm weather just because of how dark it is in colour. I’m surprised that Asmar Equestrian didn’t make an aqua version of this shirt as well. I think that would’ve looked great and perfect for the summer.

The white version is super classic. It looks very clean and smart. Something that would be perfect to wear to a clinic or walking around the show grounds when you’re not competing. You can also easily dress it down for your lessons paired with your favourite jean breeches. The only downside with white is that it gets dirty pretty quickly around horses.

The Valette Short Sleeve Show Shirt

The breathable fabrics are also featured in this short-sleeved show shirt. The coloured panels of the Valette are made of a mesh material to allow for maximum airflow. Perfect for those hot competition days! Something that all riders will be greatly appreciate when standing in the sun all day.

The coloured panels also allow you to have a little fun with your style while still looking professional in the ring.

I have to applaud Asmar Equestrian for their show shirt design. They made sure to keep it stylish and functional. I’m not really a fan of shirts that only have the blouse-like material on the chest and collar. It looks like you’re wearing a bib to me. But I do get the functionality of it. I just personally think that it looks odd and would discourage me from taking off my jacket when I’m off my horse. Which then defeats its purpose of keeping me cool.

You don’t have to worry about this shirt gaping in between the buttons because there aren’t any. The Valette has a zipper instead. The collar of the shirt is also magnetic. This means that you won’t have to struggle to button up your collar when wearing it. In fact, you could easily detach the collar while still on horseback the minute you get out of the ring if you wanted to. That’s pretty handy for those of us who hate the feeling of collars wrapped around our necks.

The Rila Mesh Paneled Show Shirt

I saved the best for last. At least, this is my favourite piece from the collection. I rarely ever look at something released by a brand and think “I need to have that”. Most of the time, there are many things available online or in stores that catch my eye. That’s why I share them with you on Pure Horse Sense!

But can I live without most of these items? Of course. Do I have to buy them? Not really. The problem is, I find myself trying to figure out how I can justify buying this shirt and adding it to my wardrobe. There’s just something special about this shirt that makes me want to take it home.

I’ve always preferred long-sleeved show shirts. I just like having the cuffs poking out from the jacket. I’m also not a huge fan of feeling the jacket lining on my bare arms. Again, just personal preference. The fact that the sleeves are also made of that mesh fabric is perfect. Sometimes it gets too hot in a traditional long-sleeved show shirt. And just like the Valette, the Rila features the magnetic collar and the zip up front.

What truly draws me to this shirt are the little details. I love the ribbon of colour around the cuffs and down the back of the collar. It just makes the shirt stand out without losing its sophistication. I like to feel confident when I’m on the show grounds. I want to look like I take my riding seriously. Because I do. But I don’t want to get lost in the crowd either. As someone who likes fashion and follows fashion bloggers and vloggers, I appreciate equestrian brands that interpret fashion trends and styles into their collections. And this shirt is right up my alley.

The one negative I have for this shirt is that I find it a little logo heavy. Having the 3 logos (the badge on the back of the collar, the logo on the chest and the name printed on the back) is a bit much. I personally would’ve liked to see the logo on the chest removed. Or even printed in an off-white colour to make it more subtle.
