Equestrian Gift Guide

It’s crazy to think about how close we are to the end of the year! This means that Christmas is also quickly approaching. And if your postal service is anything like mine, then you probably should be thinking about what you want to get everyone now so that it doesn’t get delayed in the mail. I mean, let’s be honest, December is going to be a nightmare for any delivery service this year.

So I thought I would share a few gift ideas with you. These are just a few things that equestrians would enjoy receiving as gifts at any time of the year. Not just for Christmas. For The Everyday Equestrian

An equestrian will never be unhappy to receive any essential items. You really can’t go wrong with a new pair of gloves or a new pair of breeches. These are things that equestrians use every day which means that they get worn in very quickly. If there’s anything that your equestrian has worn through or has seen better days, buying them a new one is always appreciated.

For this post, I suggested Roeckl gloves, Ariat breeches and a Cavalleria Toscana ball cap.

The Roeckl gloves are one of my favourites, but they aren’t the cheapest. So some equestrians will ride in their worn gloves until they finally develop a hole or they go on sale at their local tack shop. If you can find out your equestrian’s size and surprise them with a new pair, I’m sure they’d be thrilled.

Breeches are another one of those items that can be expensive depending on the brand. But they are also something that equestrians live in. These Ariat breeches are in a beautiful and unique colour. Which would make them different than the other pairs your equestrian has in their collection. If you know that your equestrian has a favourite brand or you know that some of their pairs of breeches are falling apart at the seams, then maybe you could surprise them with a brand new pair.

Every equestrian has helmet hair after a hard ride. It’s inevitable. The only way to fix the problem while at the barn is to throw on a hat. I’m personally a fan of the Cavalleria Toscana logo which is why this is the hat I’m featuring in this blog post. But if the equestrian you’re shopping for isn’t a fan of logos on their hats, then maybe opt for a plain ball cap. Or a beanie if they need something to keep them warm in the cooler months.

For The Competitive Equestrian

If you know that your equestrian is going to be competing next year, maybe they need some new show gear. Have they been riding in the same bonnet and saddle pad for a few years? Do they want to change their colour combination? Then maybe you can help them out with that.

My show jacket is navy blue. So for this post, I chose a navy, white and gold colour theme. But obviously, substitute the colours for what your competitive equestrian would like instead.

A fly bonnet can complete a look for the jumper ring. It can also be functional should you opt for sound muffling ears. This will help your horse focus a little bit more even with all of the distractions around. Many equestrian brands sell bonnets, but I personally like the idea of a custom bonnet. Especially if they already have their competition saddle pad picked out. Companies like De La Coeur can choose colour combinations to best complement that saddle pad. Making the final look just a little bit more polished.

So let’s talk saddle pads. For the hunter rider, a new white fitted saddle pad is always appreciated. For the jumper rider, I prefer a white pad with coloured piping. It adds just a little bit of colour while still looking clean. This one from PS of Sweden is what I would want in a competition pad. They added the gold piping to make it just that little bit fancier than an everyday pad. Perfect for the show ring.

A new browband is another little extra touch to the competition look. It’s not necessary, but for the competitive rider that wants to look polished and stand out, adding a crystal browband might make all the difference. This one from Polished Pony Equipment is even more unique as it’s an ombre design. The dark blue crystals gradually becoming lighter as they reach the center of the browband isn’t something that you see every day.

For The Equestrian's Home

Equestrian gifts don’t have to be items that can only be used at the barn. You can also bring their equestrian lifestyle into their home décor.

If you know where they hide all of their ribbons from past competitions, why not send them to someone who can turn them into throw pillows? I particularly love Equi Ribbon Creations' work. You can send over the ribbons that best suit the equestrian's colour scheme in their living room and this company will do the rest. These pillows make such thoughtful gifts. They bring those competition memories back into their home instead of having the ribbons pile up and gather dust.

This Hermes blanket is beautiful. Though it depends if the colours of the blanket will fit with the rest of the equestrian’s décor. The reason why I included the Hermes blanket is to show that equestrian-inspired décor doesn’t have to be items with bits or horses on it. Sometimes, it just needs to be an equestrian influenced brand. Of course, Hermes isn’t in everyone’s price point. There are other brands like Hansen Equestrian that have also created throw blankets in designs inspired by their other products. Of course, you can also purchase a blanket with equestrian-themed patterns. There’s nothing wrong with that either.

If you know an equestrian that works at a desk all day, then maybe this stirrup desk clock would be a nice gift for them. It’s beautiful to look at but it also functional too. It’s not just a decoration that will take up space on their desk. This particular clock is battery operated, comes in either brass or nickel and has leather details. On the other side of the clock is a compass. Making it just that much fancier.

For The Equestrian's Horse

Most equestrians put their horses before themselves. So getting presents that are for their horses is just as good as buying a present for them. If anything, it can sometimes be even more appreciated as it shows that you care about their equine friends too.

If your equestrian has had to patch up their current blankets, that might be a good sign to buy them a new one as a gift. If that’s the case, make a note about which blanket needs to be replaced. Is it their rain sheet? Their stable blanket? Their cooler? There are so many options of blankets out there and they each have their purpose. For this post, I included the Rhino stable blanket. This one is in a pattern that will suit most horse coat colours. The pattern is simple enough without it being just one solid colour. A perfect balance. Horseware Ireland makes many blankets to suit the horse’s needs. Once you know what type of sheet or blanket you are looking for, this company might be a nice place to start your search.

If an equestrian ever complains about losing brushes, giving them a custom brush set is a thoughtful gift. Companies like Alexa’s Equine Creation can create designs that are as unique as you would like. The image here is a Burberry inspired pattern. You can also ask these artists to paint on the equestrian’s logo, initials or barn colours. Everyone will know that those brushes belong to your equestrian and their brushes won’t be lost again… hopefully.

There’s just something about a new leather halter. Though your equestrian may have a nylon halter or a leather one that works just fine, having a brand new one that hasn’t been damaged is always nice. The rider could choose to keep the new halter for special occasions or replace their current one. It’s also nice to have a backup halter just in case the horse decides to break it one day. And this one from Schockemoehle would make a nice gift.

For The Fashionable Equestrian

With the equestrian lifestyle inspiring fashion a lot of the time, I thought it would be nice to include a few pieces here that I think horseback riders would appreciate. Especially those that like to dress a little bit more fashion forward.

Scarves have always been an accessory that many people enjoy wearing. This imitation silk scarf includes horses into its design without screaming equestrian. It remains delicate and feminine. This particular design comes in pink (as shown), white, blue or green. The size of the scarf isn’t so small that it’s a choker, but it’s also not so large that it’s overpowering. Making this a nice accessory to tie around the neck or to the handle of the equestrian’s favourite handbag.

I like the look of a waxed jacket. Especially in the green tones. It makes me think of the English countryside. This one from Dubarry is lovely. The high neck will protect the equestrian from the cool winds. I prefer a jacket that gathers a bit more at the waist for this style of jacket. Otherwise, it can look a bit too boxy. The leather trims are a nice touch. I would also imagine that the suede on the inside of the collar would make it feel that much cozier against the neck. It’s all in the details.

Leather wallets are one of those things that last forever. This one from Gucci is from their Horsebit 1955 collection. Of course, it’s not necessary to splurge on such a luxury brand, but I thought I would include it anyway. The handbags in this collection are also just as beautiful. If Gucci is out of your budget, there are many other horse bit wallets on the market. The Stylish Equestrian website usually has a few beautiful options. Their website is always updating with different products and their items do go out of stock which is why they didn’t get featured. But I would check them out for equestrian gift ideas anyway.
